Electricity supplier Belco has implemented its new customer information system helping people to better control their accounts online.

The new system will assign each customer a new seven-digit account number, which will appear on their next Belco bill.

The system, which came into effect on January 16, will be phased in during the first half of the year with a new website being launched, allowing customers to temporarily utilise both old and new account numbers.

Customers will need to update bank information with their new account number.

All banks are fully aware of the change in Belco account numbers, and are posting information on their websites to assist with the change.

Cooperation between Belco and the banks will ensure that payments are processed as normal, even if an old number is used.
