Belco crew in Cayman for hurricane relief mission

BELCO sent a crew of four to help the Cayman Islands restore its overhead light infrastructure which was damaged by Hurricane Paloma.

The team left on Sunday to Cayman Brac to assist the Cayman Brac Power and Lights Company (CBPL) after category 4 Paloma caused severe damage on November 8 with its top winds of 145 miles per hour making it the second strongest November hurricane on record.

CBPL general manager, Jonathan Tibbetts requested the help with the full support of Caribbean Utilities Company Ltd. (CUC) on Grand Cayman and Carilec, the organisation of Caribbean electric utilities of which CUC and BELCO are members.

The team which included a foreman and three grade one linemen is scheduled to return to Bermuda December 21 depending how progress goes in Cayman Brac. Crew from other Caribbean Islands and the US has also been assisting with the restoration.
