Sporting legends can help Hope4Life programme

Island Soccer League (ISL) players will be pushing for a place in the play-offs on Thursday night at the National Sports Centre.

If that isn't enough of an incentive, then the chance to get selected for the ISL All-Star match should be, as it's a great platform for the players to showcase their ability.

On Friday I will be at the Bank of Bermuda head of office branch on Front Street from 12-2 p.m. receiving final applications for the Pro Soccer Clinic which starts on June 29 for kids aged between 4-14.

As I see my media friends in Bermuda have been searching around for some information on why I'm doing appearances on Blog Talk Radio "Sports inside out legends of sorts" with host "Coach" Charlie Hatcher, step father to Dominique Wilkins (NBA Hall of Famer) and Gerald Wilkins ( New York Knicks and Orlando Magic).

I hear that local media have been linking me with the likes of Sam Jones, one of NBA greatest players and a 10-time NBA champion with the Boston Celtics and Ed "Too Tall" Jones, one of the great players in the NFL who played 15 seasons with the Dallas cowboys.

To hear the conversation go to www.blogtalkradio.com/legendsofsports. I enter the show after 29 minutes and talk with "Too Tall" Jones and host "coach" Charlie Hatcher.

I want to shed some light on what has been going on with some of the great legends of sports.

Yes, I've been doing many interviews with the great ones and have been in close connection with them as well.

It's all part of my push to create more awareness of the Hope4Life programme. There are many programmes for young people out there and it's important I try to affiliate with those programmes.

This would help open more doors for young people who are part of Hope4Life. Hope4Life is not just dealing with soccer but all sports and community programmes. If I could help bring all them together this would be a great start in rebuilding the strength and trust in our community. Working together is the key at this time.

In the next few weeks "Legends of inside and out" will be releasing news that would be great for Bermuda and will help me spread awareness about Hope4Life and the ISL.

I did, however, have a conversation a month ago with James "Bonecrusher" Smith, former heavyweight boxing champion, about saving young people and trying to keep them motivated.

BoneCrusher runs a programme "Champions for Kids" and dedicated his life in helping people to stay away from drugs and crime. His programme will be one that would be very helpful to Hope4Life.

For those looking for more about my association with "Legends of sports inside and out" you would have to wait a little longer to get the whole story from me, but I will tell you that being linked with the likes of Sam Jones, Riddick Bowe, Ed"Too Tall" Jones and many more has been a great experience.
