Antigua coach plays down side's chances

The mind games continued yesterday with Bermuda national team being burdened with the favourites tag by another rival coach at the Digicel Caribbean Cup in Cayman Islands.

Antigua and Barbuda coach Rowan Benjamin said the Gombey Warriors' unexpected victory over Trinidad in June had elevated their status in the Caribbean region and tipped them to be the team to beat this week.

"Any team that can go to Trinidad and win must be a good team," said Benjamin. "I mean, that was the World Cup qualifiers we're talking about.

"I understand they have many professional players so we expect a very good fight."

Benjamin added that Antigua were missing several key players from the side that posted a 4-3 d

feat at home against Cuba in their recent World Cup qualifiers.

"We're missing our two professional players from Trinidad so we will have to rely on our younger player, especially up front,'" he added.

Earlier this week Cayman Islands' boss Carl Brown proclaimed Bermuda as the best team in the Group.

"You have to say they're the favourites," he said. "After all they beat Trinidad."

Bermuda's players took part in a team bonding session at Seven Mile Beach yesterday morning, before a light workout at the Trueman Bodden Sports Complex in the afternoon.

In the evening, Bermuda's backroom team headed to His Excellency Stuart Jack's Welcome Reception at Government House for drinks and nibbles.

n Organisers are nervous about category three Hurricane Gustav, which is believed to be heading 100 miles from the Island on Friday. It's understood all games that day may be switched to Saturday.
