Child abductor could be fleeing to Bermuda

US Police believe a man who snatched his daughter may be trying to flee the country on a catamaran headed for Bermuda.

According to the Associated Press, Clark Rockefeller, 48, a divorced father, abducted his seven-year-old daughter Reigh Ross during a supervised visit in Boston on Sunday.

According to US news reports yesterday, the authorities believe that he may be trying to flee with Reigh by sea, possibly to Bermuda.

The US Coast Guard and Police searched around Long Island and New York City on Monday for the Serenity, a 72-foot catamaran that Rockefeller recently purchased.

It was also reported that the authorities are pursuing a separate lead that he may be headed to Peru.

An arrest warrant for him has been issued by Boston Police on charges of custodial kidnapping. He also was charged with assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon because a social worker was injured while trying to hold onto the vehicle he fled in.

Bermuda Police and Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre told The Royal Gazette yesterday that while they were aware of the case from news reports, they had not been alerted by the US authorities and there was no indication that the Serenity had entered local waters.
