This was revealed in the latest statistics on AIDS released yesterday.

The statistics, which cover cases up to the end of August, showed that 364 people have been diagnosed with the deadly disease since the department started keeping records on it. Of that number, 291 have died.

In August six cases were detected and one person died of the disease.

Of the number of cases recorded, 180 or 49.5 percent were people between the ages of 30 and 39; 102 or 28 percent were between 40 and 49; 42 or 11.5 percent were between 20 and 29; 27 or 7.4 percent were between 50 and 59; and 10 or 2.7 percent over 60 years.

The majority, 283 cases or 77.7 percent, of those diagnosed with AIDS have been males. And 155, or 42.6 percent, of them were believed to have contracted the AIDS virus through intravenous drug use.

Homosexual and bisexual activity accounted for the next highest group of 110 cases or 30.2 percent.
