Personal finance classes set
workshops sponsored by the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce.
First Bermuda Securities investment adviser Mrs. Jennifer Patterson will host the community workshops. The first, entitled "Affording the Luxury of Retirement'', originally to be held on Friday July 23, has been rescheduled for August 20.
Mrs. Patterson will warn local residents not to procrastinate about planning funding for retirement and education. "People are waiting until children are at high school age and then borrowing money to fund education. They end up paying larger loans and are still ridden by debt as they start retirement,' she said.
"The biggest problem facing Bermudians is the high cost of living compared to the USA. They may move to Florida as an alternative.
"Bermudians or ex-patriates, who have spent their lives here paying off mortgages, may find themselves property rich and cash poor as their cash flow has been restricted,' said Mrs. Patterson.
"Education Funding Strategies and How it Affects Retirement'' will be held on Friday, August 6 and "Smart Investing'', an introduction to investment, will be held on Friday, September 10.
The workshops, which will be held in the boardroom of the Chamber of Commerce, between 1 and 2 pm.
