Fairytale treat in store
Children's Trio stages The Princess and the Handmaiden.
The second presentation of this year's Kidfest -- a series of performances specially selected to bring the very best in children's theatre to Bermuda -- is an adaptation of Grimms' The Little Goose Girl. Combining the elements of classic story-telling with music and dance, this show is geared toward children of ages five and up.
Says Mrs. Paula Maguire who has organised Kidfest with the support of the Ministry of Cultural and Community Affairs and the Department of Education, "This show is wonderful! It really is of Broadway musical calibre and I know that children -- and their parents -- are going to love it! I do hope that families will take advantage of this exposure to international-standard theatre, in order to justify the continuation of Kidfest for Bermuda's youth.'' The Children's Trio has performed for well over 150,000 children in schools and theatres across Canada and has appeared at countless festivals.
Founded by Leslie Arden in 1982, she writes and directs all the shows for the company. These have included Rumpelstiltskin, Hansel and Gretel and The Happy Prince.
This year, Kidfest is being staged in the larger space provided by the Gombey Room at the Palm Reef Hotel on Harbour Road.
The Princess and the Handmaiden will be performed this Saturday and Sunday, November 26 and 27, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. each day. Tickets at $12 ($16 for adults) can be reserved by telephoning Kidfest at 236-1085, or may be obtained at the door.
