Renaissance ups capital

raised its capital and surplus to $270 million, after receiving an extra $100 million capital commitment from its initial investors.
Mr. James Stanard, chairman of Renaissance Re said: "The additional capital commitment will support the growth of our business and increase capital in line with business opportunities that we see.'' E.M. Warburgs, Pincus & Co., G.E. Investments and United States Fidelity and Guaranty Company were the initial investors.
From December 31, 1993, Rennaissance Re's capital and surplus, which comprises initial capital and surplus, retained earnings and the new commitment, will be at $270 million.
Renaissance Re was formed in June, 1993 with an initial capitalisation of $140 million.
