Miami-based consultants, Parnell Kerr Foster, have been carrying out an assessment of the Elbow Beach Hotel, examining its best options for future development.

It is expected the report, which will look at everything from food served to whether the resort should concentrate on conventions to the type of new buildings, should be released by the end of next month.

Yesterday, Mr. John Jefferis, managing director of Elbow Beach, said the resort had undergone a $20 million refurbishment in 1991, when ownership changed hands, and plans were in the pipeline for another revamp.

Mr. Jefferis said the consultants were looking at that plan to see if it was suitable for the future of the resort as well as possibly drawing up other ideas.

"The consultants are looking at the whole development as well as making additional recommendations to tell us which way to go forward for the future.'' he added.

Plans already submitted to the Planning Department include building more convention rooms, 150 extra suites and bedrooms, villas and "super-deluxe'' suites on the 50-acre property.

"The reason for bringing PKF in was to look at that plan, make recommendations and see if it would suit the property for the next 10 years,'' added Mr. Jefferis.

"They have finished the report and we are awaiting its publication which should be towards the end of next month.''
