Hypolite, 28, escaped from the Hamilton Police station when he removed the bars from an interview room window and jumped onto a nearby roof.

Police closed down Reid Street during rush hour while they searched for him, but it was a tip from the public that led to Hypolite's capture.

Police found Hypolite at a bus stop near the Paget Ice Queen around 6 p.m.

Hypolite was ordered into custody for $1,050 in unpaid fines before he was released from custody. He faces up to 64 days in prison for the unpaid fines.

It is expected that he will appear in court within the next two days.
