Tourism Minister David Allen, who has been at the Caribbean Hotel Association's Market Place in San Juan, Puerto Rico over the past week, held a press conference and reception for international media who were there.

Of the 22 journalists in San Juan for the largest travel trade event in the Caribbean, 18 came to the briefing.

The Bermuda Hotel Association annually attends the event, noted Mr. Allen, which attracts about 500 travel wholesalers.

The press conference was well received by UK, Europe and North American journalists who heard what the new Government had planned for Bermuda tourism, he said.

SICK SAILOR COMES IN HTH Sick sailor comes in Harbour Radio assisted two ships with problems yesterday.

A crewman off the Star Dieppe was brought into St. George's, suffering from appendicitis.

The man was brought in at around 9.30 a.m. to Ordnance Island by the pilot vessel St. David . The ship diverted on its way from Wilmington, Delaware to Italy.

The 600-foot general cargo vessel radioed Bermuda on Monday night whilst it was 190 miles west orthwest from the Island.

Later yesterday, the sailing vessel Iemanjce was expected into St.

George's. The 50-foot boat had lost engine power and was coming in under sail.

ROBBERY ATTEMPT FOILED CRM Robbery attempt foiled Police are looking for three youths who tried to rob a 44-year-old woman as she walked home from Hamilton.

The woman said three youths followed closely behind her on Fairylands Road, Pembroke at 8 p.m. on Monday and when she turned to face them, they ran at her. One grabbed her by the throat while another tried to grab her handbag.

The woman began to shout and defend herself, Police said.

The youths backed off and made good their escape along Pitts Bay Road in Pembroke.

Police have obtained the following descriptions of the three youths: A black male, six-feet tall, thin face, wearing black, baggy clothing; A black male, smaller build, wearing a lime green T-shirt, around 15 years old; and A black male, small build, also around 15 years old.

INDECENT ACT REPORTED CRM Indecent act reported A 66-year-old Paget woman reported that a prowler indecently exposed himself to her during the early morning hours.

The woman told Police the unknown man was standing at the doorway of her home at 6.30 a.m. last Thursday.

When she opened the door to confront the man, Police said, she saw that he was engaged in lewd sexual conduct on himself.

When the woman screamed, the culprit ran from the doorway.

He was described as a black male of stocky build, wearing black clothing and a black helmet.

JEWELLERY STOLEN CRM Jewellery stolen A brazen thief stole two gold rings from a Hamilton jewellery store in broad daylight.

Police said the man -- described as a black male with short hair and wearing baggy beige and burgundy striped clothing -- walked into the store and asked a sales attendant if he could try on a particular gold ring which he had seen in a display tray.

The man then asked if he could try on another to compare the two.

The sales attendant immediately became suspicious but before she could react, the culprit grabbed the ring and fled the store with both rings.

REGIMENT EXERCISE MIL Regiment exercise The public should not be alarmed by the sound of explosives and rifle firing at Warwick Long Bay today.

Police said the noise will be due to the Bermuda Regiment and Bermuda Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit holding exercises in the area.

The exercises -- to be held between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. -- will involve the use of controlled explosives and other pyrotechnics and the Warwick Long Bay area will be closed to the public.
