A Police spokesman said units were sent to the scene around 6.40 p.m. last night but could not confirm or deny whether anyone was arrested.

Police added that the fight had been reported by Government dog warden Jeffrey Benevides.

The spokesman said the event was reportedly attended by a large crowd of people who scattered when Police cars arrived.

Responding to the news last night, veterinarian Dr. Stephan Walther said: "I think its good that they're stopping dog fighting and it's something that should have been done a long time ago.'' Asked if he knew whether organised dog fights were a common thing in Bermuda, he said: "I've heard rumours that it goes on and that it has been going on for years and years.'' CRIME CRM
