Sen. Neletha Butterfield (PLP) said she took issue with the remark made by the lawyer who referred to prison inmates as "monkeys'' in a Royal Gazette article in which he recommended that young people visit prisons for a taste of prison life.

Mr. Tokunbo, who made the comments during a public meeting on violence in the schools, said: ""Kids ought to be impressed with the consequences of violence. Let them see the doors get slammed. Let them see the `monkeys' behind the cages. Let them see where people go when they lose their liberty.'' Sen. Butterfield said the remark was "extremely insensitive'' especially for inmates and their families.

"This lawyer shows neglect and irresponsibility in representing the legal profession,'' she said. "Remarks like this need to be dealt with.''
