The course covers an Introduction to Insurance, Principles of Reinsurance, Risk Management, and Captives. Lectures are scheduled for May 6, 14, and 21.

The first module explains what insurance is, how insurance deals with risk, insurable and uninsurable risks, the major classes of insurance, the insurance market and insurance in Bermuda. It begins May 6 and finishes at noon on May 14.

The second module covers the reinsurance contract, and types of reinsurance, including facultative and treaty, types of treaty, quota share and surplus, excess of loss and stop loss. It also covers the risk management process, financing of risks, including insurance in risk management, alternatives to the traditional insurance market, and gives a case study.

The section on captives deals with their historical development, types of captives, captives in Bermuda, and multinational captive programmes.

The course is being held at the Princess Hotel in Pembroke, and registration can be made through the Bermuda Insurance Institute office.
