In delivering his judgement yesterday, Magistrate Edward King said he was satisfied that the prosecution did not establish that David Harris was travelling at the claimed speed.

Mr. Harris, 18, of Trimmingham Hill, had denied speeding on a motorcycle on South Road. It had been claimed by a motorcycle officer, P.c Colin Paynter, that he had stopped Mr. Harris after two motorcyclists had passed him whilst parked on South Road.

After pursuing the bikes, he stopped Mr. Harris and showed him the speedometer of his motorcycle, which indicated 120 kph.

The Magistrate said it only served to prove that the officer had reached 120 kph to stop Mr. Harris.

He said there would have been a different outcome if the officer had followed the other bike at that speed from a distance of ten metres for some time.
