creation of a Cabinet Committee on Economic Policy.

From now on, the Committee is tasked with the coordination of national economic policy and the Premier will serve as chairperson and will be joined by the Minister of Finance as vice-chair.

The Finance Minister will coordinate the review and evaluation of existing economic and financial policies and the evaluation of proposed new policies.

Other Cabinet members, whose responsibilities include the oversight and implementation of Governmental activities which have an impact on broad areas of the economy, will make up the rest of the Committee.

The Committee on Economic Policy was formed on May 30.

Finance Minister Eugene Cox also announced the appointment of Andrew Brimmer to the post of Principal Economic Policy Advisor to the Minister of Finance.

Dr. Brimmer is a former governor of the US Federal Reserve System and assistant secretary for economic affairs with the US Department of Commerce, and is also president of Brimmer & Company, an economic and financial consulting firm in Washington DC.

He holds a PhD. from Harvard University in Economics and has taught at Harvard Business School, Michigan State and at the University of Pennsylvania and has served as director of a number of corporations including Bank of America, United Airlines and DuPont.

Dr. Brimmer's position is understood to be an advisory role. It is not a position within the civil service.
