unit agreed to acquire a 90 percent interest in European Telecom, a Belgium-based telephone carrier. Terms were not disclosed.

European Telecom, based in Luxembourg, had revenue of about $11 million last year. It has 4,000 customers, mainly small and medium-sized businesses.

RSL Communications is a facilities-based telecommunications company specialising in international services. It posted losses of $68.1 million, or $2.16 a share, on revenue of $192.6 million for the nine months ended September 30, 1997.
