Bay fall just short in Junior Counties clash

Bailey's Bay 155-9 Challengers Bailey's Bay fell three runs short of their winning target and had to settle for a draw in the second round of the Junior Eastern Counties on Saturday at Lord's.

The result favoured cup holders St. David's who were facing defeat after Bailey's Bay went into the last of the final 20 overs needing 11 runs for victory. They came agonisingly close as they scored eight and lost their ninth wicket on the final ball.

Captain Coolridge Durham was high man for Bay with 61 while David Lovell scored 27 not out and Tariq Somner 16. Lovell and Somner added 22 valuable runs for the ninth wicket in taking the team to the brink of victory before Somner was bowled last ball by Angelo Cannonier.

Stephen Outerbridge scored a useful 19 earlier in the innings as he and Durham carried the score from 16-2 to 95-3. But their separation signalled the beginning of a Bay slump.

Cannonier took three for 38 from eight overs and George O'Brien Jr three for 22 off eight to lead the St. David's bowling.

St. David's found themselves in deep trouble at 87-7 before a stand of 52 for the eighth wicket between Grayson McCallan (37 not out) and Anthony Burchall (27) led the late fightback. Opener Chris Foggo scored 20 out of an opening stand of 44 with Cannonier. Lovell took four for 19 from six overs and Durham and Clarence Trott two each late in the innings.
