has weakened and is expected to be downgraded to a tropical storm, according to Bermuda Weather Service (BWS).
James Morrison of BWS said the hurricane was at a "critical'' stage and that forecasters will know later today if it will weaken out or reintensify.
Alberto, which has gusts of up to 95 mph, is forecast to pass 521 miles southeast of the Island on Friday.
Hurricanes are not considered a threat to the Island unless they are within 400 miles of Bermuda.
Mr. Morrison said last night: "It has weakened slightly and is just barely a hurricane at the moment.
