Locals honoured by Queen
to Commanders of the Order of St. John by the Queen.
Government House yesterday announced that Solicitor General Barrie Meade and Colin Curtis, managing director of The Bermuda Perfumery, were promoted from Officers of the Order to Commanders of the Order.
Mr. Meade had served as a Commissioner of the St. John Ambulance Brigade and as chairman of Council during his 29 years with the Brigade.
Mr. Curtis, the current chairman of the Council of St. John, Bermuda, had served on the council for ten years and was chairman of fund raising.
H. Arnold Botelho, the present Commissioner of Brigade, was also promoted to the positions of an Officer.
Mary Phillips was admitted to the Order as an Officer while W.R.G. Brangman, Ibrahim Muhammad and Shirley Outerbridge were admitted as Serving Brothers and Sister.
The Order of St. John was established in 1113 and remains the oldest order of chivalry in the world.
