Local comics get chance to yuk it up for Def Comedy talent scout

Bermuda's comedians will get a unique opportunity to showcase their ability before a top American talent scout on Saturday evening.

Comedian "Bootsie'' has organised the event to be held at the Kiskadee's restaurant at the Belmont hotel.

Mr. Bob Sumner, president of Def Jam Comedy in the United States, will be in the audience.

And this is a chance any budding Bermudian comic should not miss.

"He called me two weeks ago because they are looking for an Island twist for their upcoming season,'' Bootsie explained.

"He asked me for comedians. I had an amateur night back in February and four of the five comics scheduled for Saturday's show performed during that amateur night.

"Auditions for Def Comedy Jam are difficult at the best of times for Americans and they are coming here to see us.'' Def Comedy Jam has been the launching pad for comedian turned actor Martin Lawrence. Saturday's show will feature Messrs. Darrin Simons, Nadonja Bailey, and Jahriseno Simmons.

There will also be local entertainment although the comedy will be the main event.

Each comic will have between seven and ten minutes to perform.

"It is an honour to for me to promote local talent,'' Bootsie added. "All these guys have to do is be funny.'' BOOTSIE -- Def Comedy Jam opportunity
