The news comes following reports from several residents that they saw an unidentified flying object streaking through skies above the Island just before 6 a.m. that day.

One man, who was out fishing, said he saw a "huge white thing streak across the sky''.

But US Defence Department spokesman Lt. Cdr. Anthony Cooper said: "We've had no reports of any missile launches or any sightings in that area or any other area for that time at all. We've drawn a blank there completely.'' And the Orbital Information Group's website, operated by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, reported that no satellites had dropped from their orbits in the last few days.
