Nelson books his ticket with fine performance
pool, but it was young Trevor Nelson who stole the show setting a record and qualifying for this year's Caribbean Championships.
The 14-year-old's shining moment occurred in the 200 metres breaststroke where he clocked two minutes, 43.59 seconds to eclipse Ian Tucker's long-standing mark of 2:44.32 set in 1984.
Nelson, swimming under the banner of Harbour Club, also attained the required AA standard in the 100 metres breaststroke and joined eight others who will likely represent the Island at the Caribbean Championships scheduled for Jamaica in July.
Remaining members of this elite group include Matthew Hammond (200 backstroke, 100 freestyle) Elisha Miller (200 freestyle), Stephen Fahy (200 freestyle), Nicholas Van de Weg (200 freestyle, 100 freestyle), Trevor Ferguson (100 freestyle), William Massey (100 freestyle), Craig Ferguson (100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke) and Chris King (100 freestyle).
All three of the Island's swim clubs -- Harbour, Triangle and Sharks -- took part in the weekend meet where several other personal best times were established. The next meet is set for May 14.
Meanwhile, the national squad will depart for Waterloo, Ontario, on Wednesday to take part in the Long Course Championships.
