The seminar will be held at the Hamilton Princess Hotel on December 7 at 12 noon.

The institute has invited Mr. Jean Lacave, general manager of the Brussels-based Reinsurance and Insurance Network (RINET) to speak about networks and Electronic Mail and Electronic Data Interchange, as well as standards in international communications.

RINET, a not-for-profit organisation backed by the insurance industry, aims to improve communication between insurers, reinsurance brokers and reinsurers through the use of electronic communications.

The institute's information technology committee advocates the introduction of a national multi-protocol Electronic Mail network, that would communicate in Bermuda and then internationally.

So far, E-Mail users in Bermuda have been denied the ability to communicate outside their own businesses, because of incompatible messaging formats or protocols.

Participants must confirm their attendance at the seminar before December 6.
