Jane Elizabeth Warner, who is commonly known as Dorothy Warner, stood wringing her hands as Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner (no relation) handed down his sentence.

Crown counsel Cindy Clarke told the court an Immigration Inspector went to Mark and Penelope Cook's St. Mark's Road, Smith's Parish home on May 8 and confronted Warner as to whether she was working.

The Angle Street resident denied working for the Cooks, saying she "merely volunteered'' her services and would often have tea around the pool with Mrs.

Cook.

Further investigation revealed Warner was paid between $300 and $350 a week and the couple would have applied for a work permit for her if they had known that she required one.

Warner, 38, has lived in Bermuda for 15 years and is married to a Jamaican man who has been here legally for 20 years.

Her lawyer, Leo Mills, said Warner has "expressed remorse'' and has "deep regret and is quite embarrassed to be before the courts for the first time in her life''.

Mr. Mills said she had been approached about working and had been told permission to work "had been sorted out''.
