Inspiration told to clean up its act
A story in yesterday's paper should have stated that the cruise ship Inspiration was a Carnival cruise line ship, not a Celebrity ship.
The West End Development Corporation has ordered the cruise ship Inspiration to clean up its act.
The Celebrity Cruises mega-ship arrived in Dockyard last Friday, but by Saturday morning the chief engineer on board had to be told to reduce the sewage rate.
George Smith, general manager of the West End Development Corporation, said: "They had to reduce the pumping rate to be in line with our specifications.
They were simply pumping faster than we allow.'' Mr. Smith refuted reports that a stench lingered in the air around Dockyard for most of the day. "Nothing overflowed,'' he insisted. "Our sewage treatment plant is manned 24 hours a day and so as soon as the engineer noticed the flow was too heavy, we rectified the situation.'' "We were able to treat all the sewage we received and the ship did not leave with raw sewage on board,'' he added.
