The move was made possible after a special meeting between the supermarket division of the Chamber of Commerce and Government.
The Chamber requested that the special holiday licence necessity be lifted for the unusual circumstance which would see shops closed for four days due to the Christmas and Boxing day holidays falling on the weekend.
Gas stations and several convenience stores are expected to take advantage of the Government relaxation of the law. Government offices, the banks and many businesses remain shut for the holiday observance today.
