one -- were heard following weekend action at Vesey Street Track where accidents ruled the day.

The increase of quality in the participants combined with the tightness of the track served to provide intense action for spectators, but made for often nightmarish roller-coaster rides for drivers.

Even the start vehicle was not immune, often unable to generate sufficient speed to outrace the horses creating further danger that likely would be eliminated with a more standard quarter-mile track and not the one-fifth-mile one currently in use.

Michael DeCosta, Eddie Roque and John Flood were all forced to squeeze past the start vehicle which had taken refuge along the outer side wall during the free-for-all.

Incidents aside, excitement showered in abundance on a day which produced total of eight double victories.

Roque was the first to accomplish the feat steering Jandy's Giddy Up, but would soon be followed into the books by Timmy Boyles (Toody's Ebony), Paschal Ducket (Trotacre Amos Bass) and Andrea Westerfield (V Six), all competing in the first half draw.

In the second half Roque again led the way, this time at the reins of Mowtown Scott trailed by Flood (Melody Time), DeCosta (Eddie the Great) and Murray Terceira (Carolina Jubilee).

As expected Jubilee raced out of the 1:12/2-1:13/4 time bar, closely followed by Custom Eyed's, Michael DeCosta's new addition to the field.

EDDIE ROQUE -- Enjoyed success during weekend action.
