receiving a motorcycle worth $2,500 that he knew was stolen.

But Ellington Bell pleaded not guilty to the offence and to an alternate charge of stealing the cycle.

The East Green Acres resident told the court he had bought the cycle for his daughter for a couple of hundred dollars and asked: "Why would I buy her a stolen bike?'' Bell was then fined $200 for riding the cycle with the wrong licence plate on it and $150 for riding it while it was unregistered.

He was fined a further $400 for driving it while he was disqualified and he was disqualified from driving all vehicles for a further 12 months.

A trial date was set for December 15 and Bell was bailed at $500 in relation to the other two matters.
