Middle School students were given a tour of the historic building yesterday by architect Jordy Walker.

Mr. Walker explained the architectural significance and lifestyle of those living in Carter House hundreds of years ago.

The students were invited by the Bank of Bermuda's Centennial Trust whose committee member David Lang said: "The Centennial Trust is delighted to have contributed to the restoration of Carter House which is one of the oldest Bermuda homes which remains in its original form.

"We are pleased that these students from Clearwater Middle School have today been able to see some of Bermuda's oldest history first hand.'' He added: "We commend the St. David's Island Historical Society for undertaking this restoration initiative and we understand that the society intends to open the house as a museum and we look forward to that greatly.'' Joyce Hall, Chairman of the Carter House Restoration project and Vice President of the St. David's Historical Society, said the house was last occupied in the 1940's by Mr. Howard Smith and his brother who were responsible for the development of the Howardi Lily. The building is currently empty but plans are underway to furnish the house and open it as a museum.
