door after renovations have closed that area to through-way movement.

Court administrator Tracy Kelly told The Royal Gazette that it would no longer be feasible to move prisoners through the downstairs area.

"Before, it used to be a lobby hallway area but now it's office space with carpet, air conditioning, computers. That sort of thing,'' he said.

The changes were made to accommodate Traffic Department staff who handle the administration of motor vehicle offences.

Mr. Kelly said prisoner movement will take place only through the front doors hereafter.

"Prisoners aren't allowed in office areas. Courts have three areas -- prisoners, public and private and none will meet in a preferable situation.

"But we don't have a preferable situation since they (prisoners) come through the public doors,'' he added.
