Nat'l gallery wants more top local artists for show

nominate artists being represented in their special show planned for next year, Celebration of Excellence: Bermuda's Biennial Exhibition. It will run from June to September 1994.

The deadline for nominations has now been extended to June 30 and the Gallery is urging the public to nominate their choice of artist (including sculptors and photographers) for inclusion.

"So far we have had 18 painters, two photographers and three sculptors nominated,'' says Gallery director Mrs. Laura Gorham.

"We would like to remind the public that the artists should be Bermudian (living here or abroad), or local residents. We are anxious to show the very best contemporary fine art in this exhibition which is to celebrate the work of living artists.'' Each artist nominated should submit a curriculum vitae and a minimum of six slides representative of their best work. Each slide should be labelled with the artist's name, title of the work, medium, size and date.

A specially selected jury will view the slides and from that the final slate of artists will be chosen. Then, the artists will be asked to submit slides of work to be placed in the exhibit.

Mrs. Gorham says that successful artists will be contacted by August and the jury will make its final selection of art during March and April of next year.

"We are looking forward to receiving as many nominations as possible for this celebration of Bermuda's best. If anyone has any queries, we would like them to call us at the Gallery, 295-9428, as soon as possible,'' she says.
