Officers recovered the ingredients to make 28 Molotov Cocktails during a search operation on Thursday evening.

The materials were inside two boxes found on a vacant lot at Court Street and Elliott Streets, Hamilton.

A Police spokeswoman said last night that the force could not say if the bombs were intended for use in gang-related violence.

Police seized 29 Molotov Cocktails and various weapons during the summer in a crackdown on gang violence.

A Police spokeswoman said last night: "There has been an increase in gang-like activity.

"Whether or not these bottles were going to be used in connection with that, we cannot say at this stage.

"We are just glad we were able to retrieve the bottles before any damage was done.''
