pollution to ground water in the West End and urged that any development of Morgan's Point should be carefully reviewed.

Speaking during the Motion to Adjourn in the House of Assembly on Friday, Mr.

Hodgson noted that over 500 gallons of diesel and jet oil fuel are "sitting on top of the water table'' at the former Naval Annex.

And he told the House the situation -- coupled with a shrinking water table -- could prove dangerous to as much as a third of the population.

"The more water is used, the lower the table will get and the closer the oil will move toward the lens,'' he said.

"If these lens are polluted it will wipe out the water supply for a third of the population.'' Mr. Hodgson also pointed out that a significant population increase to the area serviced by those lens could disturb the delicate balance.

"We need to consider the ramifications that could result as we look at the development of Morgan's Point.
