Parish home.

The boy, who is expected to appear in Juvenile Court shortly, pulled a knife on family members for no apparent reason.

Police spokesman P.c. Gary Venning said the incident occurred just before midnight on August 18.

"Police attended the residence after it was reported that a 13-year-old boy was threatening family members with a knife,'' P.c. Venning said. "On arrival they discovered the mother, stepfather, and brother of the offender had locked themselves in various bedrooms after being threatened by the boy.'' Police were unable to gain access to the house and eventually had to force entry at which point the boy turned on the officers.

P.c. Venning said after about a half hour of trying to reason with the youngster, the boy threw the knife and a pair of scissors at one of the officers but missed.

The teenager was overpowered by Police and taken to Somerset Police Station.

"It is not known what caused the incident,'' P.c. Venning said, adding the Social Services Department was investigating.
