conditional discharge in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Deborah James of Hamilton Parish admitted unlawfully assaulting the woman and damaging her sweater, valued at $75 on March 6.

Police prosecutor, Sgt. Wilbert McLean said James and another woman, Terrilynn Thompson, entered Roosters restaurant on Court Street where they saw the complainant.

He said the two young women, for no apparent reason and without provocation, started to slap and kick the complainant.

The fight continued onto Court Street where the woman's sweater was ripped off and thrown away by the other two.

She then went to the Police Station and lodged a complaint.

Sgt. McLean said officers on patrol at 1.30 a.m. saw James and Thompson and took them to the station.

When interviewed, James admitted slapping the woman but denied any other involvement.

Duty counsel Mr. John Barritt said there was a history of bad blood between those involved.

James said the fight was mainly between the other two but that as she was leaving the restaurant, the woman pushed her and she retaliated by slapping her.

She said she did not throw away the woman's sweater, but that it was more a case of her not retrieving it from where it fell.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis gave James a conditional discharge for six months.
