attacks on females across the Island.

Police are about to publish a new and updated security brochure designed especially for females.

It comes after a three month period which has seen several attacks on women, most of which were of a sexual nature.

And the publication, which was first published 12 years ago, has been completely rewritten by a female civilian worker in the Crime Prevention unit.

Sgt. Chris Wilcox said the brochure, written by Crime Prevention Officer Melinda Benevides, contained vital advice for women to look after themselves and avoid potential trouble on the streets.

And the Crime Prevention Officer said it contains new advice on recent threats such as date rape drugs and stalking.

"The decision to update the brochure was taken a year ago,'' he said. "I thought it would be more appropriate if a women revised it, not a man.

"So it is written from a woman's point of view. A lot of it is common sense.'' The 4,000 copies will have 16 pages of advice and information.

It covers safety when alone and at night, including parking in well lit areas, avoiding taking short cuts in dimly lit places and what to do if you believe someone is in your house.

It also looks at stalking, which is now covered by new laws and the danger of date rape drugs.
