The Federated League of Americans Around the Globe (FLAGG) and DHL Worldwide Express have teamed up to help American citizens exercise their right to vote.

FLAGG, a non-profit and non-partisan organisation, and DHL have arranged for the courier company's 1,700 offices around the world -- including its Hamilton office at 16 Church Street -- to accept absentee ballot applications and registered ballots from American expatriates.

DHL will courier the ballots to the United States and deposit them with the US mail service for delivery to local election officials.

The free-of-charge service is aimed at overcoming the uncertainties of international mail systems. This is the third time FLAGG and DHL have teamed up to help Americans vote.

To take advantage of the service, American citizens should obtain a Federal Post Card Application form from the US Consulate on Middle Road. Completed forms should be returned to the DHL by September 20. This will give US election officials sufficient time to process the application and mail the absentee ballot to the voter.

Voters should return their completed absentee ballot as soon as it is received. DHL will accept completed ballots up to October 25.
