A man who assaulted a female Police officer was fined $500 when he appeared in Magistrates? Court.

Shawn Burrows, 22, of Smith?s Parish, pleaded guilty to the offence, which occurred on November 29 outside of Captain?s Lounge, on Reid Street.

Crown counsel Shakira Dill said that when Police arrived at the scene a large crowd had gathered and Burrows was arguing with someone.

When the W.P.c. tried to arrest him, he wrapped his arm around her and other officers had to come to her aid in order to for him to release her.

He was bailed to return to Hamilton Police Station and he told officers that he was sorry and that he did not mean to do it.

Defence lawyer Larry Mussenden, appearing only as a friend of the court, said: ?The report did not say what he was doing to warrant being arrested.?

Mr. Mussenden suggested a conditional discharge.

Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves agreed that the report did not state why the Police officer was arresting Burrows, but chastised the defendant anyway.

He said: ?You can?t stand up and talk civilly to the Police and listen to the man.

?The problem with you people is that you are too rude.
