Local singer to give farewell concerts
perform two farewell classical and spiritual recitals next month.
The recitals, to be held at St. John's Church on June 10 and 11 under the distinguished patronage of Premier the Hon. Sir John Swan and Lady Swan, will mark the end of 10 years on local stages and the beginning of a new venture for Mrs. Christopher Stevens.
She will be leaving the Island to pursue her education and vocal training in Atlanta.
Having begun performing at age four, Mrs. Christopher Stevens has achieved several accolades for her vocal talents.
In 1980, she was offered a scholarship from Miss Joy Blackett to attend the Juliard School of Music in New York. At the same time, she was accepted to travel with the international music group Up With People. Faced with such a dilemma, she chose to travel with Up With People.
The youngest cast member that year, Mrs. Christopher Stevens travelled throughout Mexico and the US, performing for the President of Mexico, heads of state and various other dignitaries as a lead vocalist.
In 1982, she left Up With People to attend college at Atlantic Union College, in South Lancaster, Massachusetts where she received her Bachelor of Social Work Degree. While there she sang and won several school talent competitions.
Tickets for next month's recitals are $20 and available at the 27th Century Boutique.
