The 31-year-old man was walking his nine-year-old daughter to her house on Friswell's Road, Pembroke last week when a man known to him appeared swinging a metal pipe.

As he shoved his daughter out of reach of the attacker, the man suffered a blow to his lower back.

He claims that the culprit then kicked him repeatedly around his head before he was able to get to his feet and run to a nearby house.

The victim was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital suffering from a broken nose and bruising but was released after treatment.

Police inquiries are continuing.
