Tucker beat out 40 other competitors on Sunday, completing the two five-kilometre runs and 30-kilometre cycle at the old Baselands in one hour, 27 minutes and 35 seconds.

Tucker, a veteran of Bermuda road running races, finished 14 seconds ahead of second-place Brett Forgesson and 36 seconds faster than third-place Steve Donnelly.

Julia Hawley successfully defended her women's title, taking 14th spot with a time of 1:37:30. Melanie Claude was second among the nine women, clocking a 1:42:18 for 20th overall.

The old and the new of triathlon also competed, with Kris Hedges taking fourth spot and former national champion Greg Hopkins sixth. Reigning champion Neil de Ste Croix pulled out because of the 'flu while top distance runner Kavin Smith opted not to enter.

Only five duos entered the team competition while 40 youngsters completed a much shorter course in three individual age groups and two team categories.
