Station repairing damage exposed by Hurricane Felix.

The US Government has agreed to spend $5 million fixing the seawall and the exposed landfill site at the former base at St. David's.

Eventually, when work is complete, tens of thousands of tons of granite will have been put in place along the foreshore.

Contractor JA Jones Environmental Services Company has been employed by the US Navy to carry out the work, which is expected to last until the end of February, next year.

Finance Minister, Grant Gibbons, said: "The contractors have started an intensive six-days-a-week schedule to get the job done.

"Upon completion, the Navy will have put in place 30,000 tons of granite along the foreshore to prevent the kind of washout that occurred during Hurricane Felix.'' TIP UP -- Trucks and bulldozers spread gravel over the old landfill site at the former US Naval Air Station at St. David's.
