The incident occurred at around 10.40 on Friday night near the junction of Burnt House Hill and Harbour Road.
Police say the cabbie picked up three male passengers outside the Tio Pepe restaurant in Southampton.
The trio reportedly stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the victim and left him lying on the sidewalk as they fled the scene.
A member of the public discovered the injured driver and took him to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where he spent the night and was later released.
The taxi was found abandoned on Canal Street in Pembroke.
