Dandy Town substitute Troy Lewis woke up yesterday morning, picked up the newspaper and was reminded of the moment he gave Vasco the FA Cup when he saw

But the the 24-year-old Lewis, who comes from a footballing family -- his father is former Social Club and Bermuda winger Fred (Pinks) Lewis -- is determined to bounce back from his 83rd minute own goal that gave Vasco a 2-1 come-from-behind victory.

"I can live with it,'' said Lewis when contacted yesterday. "It was just unfortunate, that's all.'' Lewis said he was trying to head the ball over the bar when he connected with Voorhees Astwood's cross from the left. Vasco players were lurking nearby so Lewis knew he had to make contact.

"I couldn't let it go across me,'' he said.

If the goal had been scored at the other end, Lewis would probably describe it as one of his most memorable goals ever. In this case he wants to forget his second goal of the season as quickly as possible.

"Nobody is mad at me,'' he explained. "Everybody made it easy to deal with.

That's not to say I wasn't upset, but I realise life has to go on. Now I hope to make the best of next season.'' Lewis had hoped to make the most of his first appearance in an FA Cup final when he rose from the subs' bench in the 74th minute to replace the injured Darron Simons -- himself a second half substitute.

In the space of nine minutes Vasco went from a goal down to 2-1 ahead after Astwood scored the first and set up the second.

The season was the first in the First Division for Lewis, after his move from Social Club, and now the talented midfielder is looking to build on the promise he showed this season.

"I'm happy where I am and I will be there next season,'' he promised.

"We're definitely disappointed but we did have a decent season, so we have to take the losses with the wins. Everything can't go right.

"We went up there and weren't in the right frame of mind. We thought we had won it before we started. We never played up to our potential.'' Coach Mark Trott disclosed that Lewis found himself in a defensive position because he went there in place of the injured Wylie Rudo who had moved into midfield because of a foot injury.

"I said to him (Lewis) that people might remember that he scored an own goal but what I remember was that he put his heart into it and played for the team,'' said Trott.

"I'm just disappointed that we lost, not upset that he scored an own goal.

It's rather unfortunate. He's come into the team as a new player and contributed to our success this season.

"He made a decision and nobody would have questioned it if the ball had gone over the bar for a corner.'' Added Trott: Devarr Boyles summed it up when he said that `Pinks' scoring an own goal should really have made no difference if we had scored the goals we were supposed to score. And I have to agree with him.'' Town were hoping to finish their season with a fourth trophy, but they were unquestionably the best team of the season after landing the league, Dudley Eve and Friendship trophies.

"We're going to go forward,'' Trott insists. "We've got three titles that we have to defend next season.

"The beauty about the Dandy Town players is that we've become a unit, like when we first came out as youth explosion. All that was obvious and very significant to our success.'' Town, who will meet Vasco in the Charity Cup in September to kick off the new season, will have an important meeting for all Alliance and first team players tomorrow at 6.30 p.m. at the club to discuss the tentative pre-season tour.

The Bermuda Football Association yesterday announced that the replay of the Crystal Palace Youth Cup between Devonshire Colts and North Village will take place tonight at 6 p.m. at the BAA Field.

Sunday's game ended in a 2-2 draw after extra time.

North Village's Kaiwan Dill scored a controversial equaliser in the closing moments of regulation.
