Fed-up Mrs. Stacey Irving is demanding action to stop non-residents parking outside her home and forcing her to park in the next street.

Mrs. Irving, who works shifts at the Sonesta Beach Hotel, says people are parking in Princess Street to avoid having to pay in Hamilton.

But she says she and her husband are often unable to park near their home and have to move to Court Street to find a space.

"I don't see why I should have to walk because people are parking on the street outside my home. This has been going on since people have had to pay to park, no-one wants to pay,'' said Mrs. Irving.

She has written to Mr. Roger Sherratt, the secretary of the Corporation of Hamilton, asking for action to be taken to solve the problem and if residents can have their own parking bay.

Mr. Sherratt said he believed the problem would probably be solved when the new Bull's Head multi-storey car park opened in November.

"We are aware that we have had problems with people wanting to park in the same space all day and we are looking at introducing more one-hour only places.

"We have also created a number of one-hour parking spaces in Princess Street.

Generally, however, there are many more vehicles on the roads and much more pressure on parking.

"Members of the Corporation feel strongly about helping residents, but they will have to wait patiently until the multi-storey car park opens.'' BUMPER TO BUMPER -- Cars parked nose to tail along Princess Street to the annoyance of Mrs. Stacey Irving who wants residents' to have priority.
