Longtail Review charms guests with stellar show

evening at sea. Fully equipped with a new state-of-the-art sound and lighting system, the Bermuda Longtail, renowned for its snorkelling expeditions and happy-hour evening cruises, now converts into a floating nightclub on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Entertainment involves a trio of dancers including former "Follies'' entertainers Miss Wanda Maxwell and Mrs. Mary McCallan as well as Miss Territa Ray. Known as Bermuda's Finest Dancers, the dancing group formed two years ago and started working for the Bermuda Longtail when it opened as a floating nightclub last month. The dancers, who put on a variety of acts with different themes including Calypso, Reggae, African, Rock & Roll and Country & Western, perform with singers Mr. Andre Simmons (Tee) and Mr. Wayne Davis, who is also the keyboard player. As well, Mr. Earlwin Wolfe (Bootsie), who has opened for many acts including Bill Cosby and has been named Bermuda's entertainer of the year three years running, does a stand-up comedy routine. "We started with three separate acts which we fused together,'' said Mr. Davis, who has been in the entertainment business for 25 years and performs regularly with the group, Twice. "We offer a variety show that includes a lot of audience participation -- we have limbo and bamboo dancing as well as twisting competitions.'' Said Miss Maxwell: "The audience seem to really enjoy the entertainment. During the first number, people are often stunned because it's professionally done and then they relax and get into the show.'' The concept of entertainment on the water is exciting by itself. But adding to that is a variety show which offers a little something for every one. "Everybody who comes aboard gets a lot more than they expect,'' said Mr. Davis. The newly formed entertainment group, who collectively call themselves the Longtail Review, caters to both locals and tourists. "But the best nights seem to be when there's a mixed audience,'' said Mr. Davis. He added that working with the Longtail Review entertainers and crew is most enjoyable, not only on stage but off stage. "Because of this, I know it will work,'' he said. The dancers are very relaxed on stage and enjoy being on the water. "We're having a lot of fun,'' said Miss Maxwell. "Dancing on the boat is very relaxing in a calm atmosphere. We even make it through the waves!'' PHOTO DANCING TRIO -- (from left) Mrs. Mary McCallan, Miss Territa Ray and Miss Wanda Maxwell demonstrate limbo aboard the new MV Bermuda Longtail.
