Youth cricket squad grab their third win

Social Club 172 The International Youth Squad picked up their third First Division win of the season on Sunday when they beat Social Club by just 14 runs. The youngsters, preparing for the International Youth Tournament which Bermuda is hosting next month for the second time, had a seventh wicket stand of 81 between Travis Smith and Munroe Darrell to thank for their winning total.

The pair came together when the total was 80-6 and carried the score to 161 in the closing overs with Darrell leading the batting with 50 and Smith contributing 33.

Jaja Millett scored 19 while Social Club were quite generous in the extras department, conceding 41, including 35 wides. Tacoma Robinson led the Social Club bowling with three for 26 while Jaymo Durham took two for 41.

Social Club were encouraged by an opening stand of 32 between Dwayne Adams (21) and Shawn Spencer (13) before a couple of quick wickets set them back at 46-2.

They recovered to reach 99-4 and then 130-5 as Cory Berkeley led the batting with 35.

Darrell, sharing the new ball for the Youth Team, completed a good allround match by taking three for 34 from 10 overs while Smith had three for 45 from 10 overs of spin and Justin Robinson took two for 33 from 10.

St. David's 272-7 Somerset Bridge 136 Former captain Allen Richardson, who came out of retirement to lend a hand, smashed 78 not out off the Somerset Bridge bowlers as St. David's won by 136 runs.

Richardson was supported by 68 from Phillip Pitcher while opener Dean Pitcher scored 29 and Reginald Pitcher 26.

The Bridge wickets were shared amongst six bowlers with David Jones the only one to take more than one, finishing with two for 52 from 10 overs.

Jones, opening the batting, also led the way with the bat, stroking 55 of the first 89 runs before he was fifth out.

Schoolboy Landro Minors sealed victory for St. David's by taking the last three Bridge wickets, finishing with three for 13 from 3.2 overs.
