New company boast tougher line of building products
severe weather are being marketed by a new Bermuda company.
Called Bermuda Tech, the company is based in King Street, Hamilton, and has been set up by Mr. Terence Mullan, Mr. Leslie Outerbridge and architects Mr.
Bruce Barker and Mr. Sjur Linberg.
One US product, an "Insteel 3-D'' panel system, is a sandwich of concrete with a core of polystyrene encased in insulating galvanised mesh.
Mr. Linberg claims that walls using "Insteel 3-D'' will be tougher and more adaptable to the local climate than traditional building blocks.
"Bermuda buildings need strong walls to protect the structure from hurricanes. Traditional block walls do not always stand up to the strong suction of hurricane winds and neither do they have any resistance to heat,'' said Mr. Linberg.
The new panel system is similarly priced to building blocks, he said. Bermuda Tech is also marketing "Dryvit'' products, including a finish that does not require repainting, according to Mr. Linberg. "Mildew can be washed off,'' he said.
Mr. Leslie Outerbridge is representative for the "Dryvit'' product in Bermuda.
The third product is the "Outerbridge Roof'', described as a high density foam that will not need recoating for a 15-year period.
Bermuda Tech have built a model house in Green Dale Lane in Warwick to demonstrate the new products. Architects Barker & Linberg, who will be involved with the architectural aspects of the business, have drawn up sample plans of homes, incorporating the products.
"People often don't build because of the complexity of the operation, but the samples make it simple for the public,'' said Mr. Linberg.
